UP Police forms social media cell with 7 cops
Lucknow: Upbeat with the response it garnered on online platforms, UP Police has decided to formalise its social media initiatives. A section is being created at the DGP office in which seven policemen will be posted to handle Twitter, Facebook and other social media outlets which have been launched in the past year.
At present, the DGP office has 15 sections which deal with procedures such as transfers, salary and pension, welfare and other matters concerning 2.5 lakh police personnel and 20 crore population of UP.
IG Sanjay Singhal, assistant to DGP, will supervise the day-to-day functioning of the cell. “We are in the process of setting up a social media cell within a few days,” said Singhal. The decision to give a formal shape to the unit was taken to keep it insulated from a frequently changing dispensation.
The core team of tech-savvy DGP S Javeed Ahmad comprises police officials who keep up with changing technology.
