This happens only in Akhilesh’s UP – Pay Your Electricity Bills Online Now

If you are a resident of Uttar Pradesh then there is good news for you. Now you don’t have to wait in long queues to pay your electricity bills. You don’t either have to wait for someone to come over and take the meter readings. The process to pay the electricity bill has been made extremely transparent and comprehensive thanks to Akhilesh Yadav Government in Uttar Pradesh.

The process to pay the bill online is known as Trust Billing and the payee can e-mail, SMS, log onto the official website to enter the meter reading and pay the amount. The existing method to pay the electricity bill is extremely tedious and time consuming. One must get the bill issued from the company or get the bill generated from the government centre before paying it. But Uttar Pradesh Government has streamlined this process from 1st July 2016 and now one can pay the bill from the comforts of their home.

On one hand, where Trust Billing will benefit the honest population it will also penalize people entering wrong meter reading. But first, everyone will need to register themselves on the UPPCL website with their e-mail ID, mobile number, or Aadhar Card number. Every six months, the meter readings will be verified and if someone is found entering the incorrect value, as a penalty will have to 1.5 times the actual bill. This will also help the electricity department save revenue by omitting the charges paid to the meter reader, which is almost Rs. 8 per reading. Using the official website you can also get a physical copy of the electricity bill delivered to your home address.

Trust Billing in Uttar Pradesh will also be one of its kind project in the country. This has been initiated by Akhilesh Yadav in lieu of digitalizing all the official touch points. It will increase transparency in the processes and make the residents more aware.

Social Samajwadi would like to thank the Digital CM for yet another great initiative.
