File FIRs Online; E-Thana Goes Live!

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has brought in a revolution by digitalizing multiple government departments and now he has also announced E-Thanas for Uttar Pradesh. On 24th May, the UP Police Chief, Javeed Ahmad declared that the services will be operational in the next 15 days.

The pilot e-Police Station will have its headquarter in the state capital, Lucknow at the Crime Record Bureau. Thanks to this scheme, the residents of the state will now be able to lodge an FIR online. They will not have to visit the police station, at all. It will all be possible via the UP Police website. The FIR will be accepted or rejected by the police station in-charge. Status of the report will be issued within 48 hours and the complainant will be informed via e-mail or SMS.

If the FIR is legit and has been registers, the documents along with crime numbers etc. will be mailed to the accuser in PDF format. This service will be available in both Hindi and English, with multiple fonts so that people can use it with ease. The e-Police Station will be headed by Deputy and SP rank officers. There will be 10 operators and 10 sub-inspectors reporting to them. The complainant will also be able to see the progress online.

Thanks to Akhilesh Yadav and his e-Governance, the residents of Uttar Pradesh feel more secure. It is because of such development initiatives that Uttar Pradesh’s capital has been declared the Smart City Competition winner.
