“The woman was locked in a room for the last eight months. Anything could have happened to her had the police not released her in time,” said Basti SP Kripa Shankar Singh. He further said that during questioning Kanchan’s husband Jagdev, a tea vendor, revealed that he had locked his wife in the room after she suffered a paralysis attack eight months ago while delivering a baby.

The incident took place at Rasoolpur locality of Basti district where police found the victim Kanchan, 36, in a critical condition. She was pale, exhausted, underweight and also suffering from jaundice as well as other complications.

Kanchan was admitted to the district hospital where she is undergoing treatment. Speaking about her condition, the doctors said, “She is underweight and suffering from jaundice. She is currently on intravenous medications.” Meanwhile, police have taken her husband Jagdev, a tea vendor, into custody and are questioning him. Prakash Sony, the person who brought this to the notice of UP Police is thankful to the officers for their swift response.
